Weight conversion charts are useful when you need a quick lookup without having to calculate every time. Whether you are checking luggage weight in a hotel room, reading European product packaging, or comparing fitness metrics across systems, a reference table saves time and reduces errors.

This guide covers the most commonly needed weight conversions: kilograms to pounds, pounds to kilograms, and grams to ounces. The conversion factors never change, so these tables are permanent references.

Common Weight Reference Points

Luggage: most US airlines allow 50 lb (22.7 kg) per checked bag. Most international carriers use 23 kg (50.7 lb). A bag at 49 lb is about 22.2 kg — safely within both limits.

Gym weights: a standard US barbell is 45 lb (20.4 kg). A 25 kg (55.1 lb) bumper plate is commonly marked in red. A 20 kg (44.1 lb) barbell is the Olympic standard. A 5 lb dumbbell is about 2.27 kg.

Stones and Pounds (UK Usage)

The UK uses stones (st) alongside pounds for body weight in informal conversation. 1 stone = 14 pounds = 6.350 kg. To convert from kg to stones: divide by 6.350. To get the remaining pounds: multiply the decimal portion by 14.

Example: 80 kg ÷ 6.350 = 12.60 stone. The decimal 0.60 × 14 = 8.4 lb, so 80 kg ≈ 12 stone 8 lb. Most UK bathroom scales now show all three: stones-and-pounds, kilograms, and pounds.

Quick Tips

  • Print or bookmark this page as a reference when traveling internationally or shopping at metric grocery stores.

  • For cooking: 100 g ≈ 3.5 oz and 500 g ≈ 1.1 lb are the two most useful anchors.

  • For body weight: 1 kg change ≈ 2.2 lb. A 5 kg loss is about 11 lb.

  • For shipping: most international couriers round to the nearest 0.5 kg. Convert your lb weight to kg before booking.
