How Military Time Works
Military time (also called 24-hour time) expresses every hour of the day as a unique two-digit number from 00 to 23, followed by two digits for minutes. There is no AM or PM — 0900 is 9 in the morning and 2100 is 9 in the evening.
To convert military time to standard time: if the hours are less than 12, add "AM" (0000 = 12:00 AM, 0730 = 7:30 AM). If the hours are 12 or greater, subtract 12 and add "PM" (1200 = 12:00 PM, 1730 = 5:30 PM, 2300 = 11:00 PM).
To convert standard time to military time: for AM times, keep the hour and pad to four digits (9:15 AM = 0915), except 12:00 AM = 0000. For PM times, add 12 to the hour (5:30 PM = 1730), except 12:00 PM = 1200.
