FAQ
How many days are in a month on average?
Calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days. The average (using the Julian calendar) is 365.25 ÷ 12 = 30.4375 days. This calculator counts actual calendar days between dates, so months and years shown reflect the true elapsed time, not a fixed average.
Does this calculator count both the start and end date?
The calculator counts the number of days between two dates, which is the end date minus the start date. If today is Jan 1 and you select Jan 3 as the end date, the result is 2 days — the days elapsed, not including the start date itself. This is the standard mathematical definition of date difference.
Why do month and year counts sometimes seem off?
Month and year counts are calculated using calendar date arithmetic, not just dividing total days by 30 or 365. For example, from Jan 31 to Mar 1 is 1 month and 1 day (or 2 days in a leap year) — not 1.03 months. The days remaining after full months are counted separately.
