What Are Business Days?
A business day is any day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday. In most countries, the standard business week runs Monday through Friday. The exact definition can vary — some financial institutions count only banking hours, some jurisdictions treat certain weekdays differently — but the Mon–Fri rule applies in most contexts.
Business day counts matter for contracts, shipping estimates, payroll processing, invoice due dates, legal notices, and project planning. When a contract specifies "10 business days", that means 10 Mon–Fri days, not 10 calendar days.
FAQ
Does this calculator include the start and end date?
Yes — both the start date and end date are included in the count. If you select Monday Jan 6 as start and Wednesday Jan 8 as end, the result is 3 business days (Mon, Tue, Wed).
How do I account for public holidays?
After getting the business day count, subtract the number of public holidays (that fall on weekdays) within your selected range. Holiday calendars vary by country, so this adjustment must be done manually.
What is the difference between business days and working days?
In common usage, the terms are interchangeable — both mean Mon–Fri, excluding weekends. Some industries use 'working days' to also exclude recognized public holidays; this calculator counts only weekdays regardless of holidays.
